Last school year, JFT was awarded a Powerful Partnership Institute Grant from the American Federation of Teachers, providing $20,000 in funding. Thanks to additional generous donations from our local brother and sister unions, we raised an extra $8,000, bringing our total to $28,000.
With these funds, JFT partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank and their Backpack Program, helping feed over 350 JP Schools students facing food insecurity. This program provided easy-to-open meals over the weekend at four different schools, helping to bridge the food gap between school and home.
Although AFT is not offering the grant this year, the need remains. To continue supporting our students, JFT has partnered with Breaux Mart and Smile Doctors to help combat food insecurity.
We are asking for donations of non-perishable food items to distribute to students in need. If you can help, please consider contributing to our food drive.
Every donation makes a difference!
Thank you for your generosity and support.
