The school board’s ratification of the proposed Collective Bargaining Agreement is now scheduled for the school board meeting on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
This matter was originally placed on their Agenda for the meeting this Wednesday, April 2, 2025. However, the Board is unable to consider ratification this Wednesday.
The reason is that Louisiana law requires school boards to post a proposed Collective Bargaining Agreement on their website at least five (5) business days prior to the Board’s meeting to consider ratification. The proposed CBA was posted on the school board’s website on Thursday, March 27, 2025, however, due to a human error, the complete document wasn’t posted. The complete CBA was posted the next day, but that doesn’t meet the 5-day requirement for it to be considered this Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
Here’s the law that governs this:
Louisiana Revised Statute 44:67.1. Acceptance of collective bargaining agreement
No collective bargaining agreement to which a public employer is a party shall be accepted or ratified by the public employer or its representative until the collective bargaining agreement has been made available to the public via the Internet website of the public employer for at least five business days. The public employer shall issue a written public notice in the manner provided in R.S. 42:19(A)(2) informing the public of how such agreement may be accessed and the date, time, and place of the meeting at which the agreement will be considered by the public employer for acceptance or ratification.
I have been assured that the proposed Collective Bargaining Agreement has already been placed on the May 7, 2025 JP Schools Agenda. We ask all members attend the May meeting to show support for our new CBA.
