A bill that had raised hackles in the special education community because it could have segregated specialneeds children into separate schools will apparently not be moved by its author.
JFT, in association with Families Helping Families, is advertising three FHF workshops for parents and teachers. All will be held at FHF of Jefferson, 201 Evans Rd., Bldg. 1, Suite 100, Harahan. The workshops and dates are as follows. All workshops are from 6-8 p.m., with a light supper at 5:30 p.m.
A standing-room-only crowd of Jefferson Parish teachers tonight unanimously ratified a new three-year contract that was negotiated between the bargaining teams of JFT and the JPPSS.
The previous contract expired on June 30, 2012, in the wake of the Jefferson Parish School Board's decision to not extend it while a new one was negotiated. The Board did authorize the Superintendent to enter into negotiations last summer, and the district's bargaining team met regularly for many months with the union's bargaining team to reach agreement on the new contract.
March 21, 2013 -- The Jefferson Federation of Teachers and the American Federation of Teachers announced today a $2,000 contribution to a Crime Stoppers reward for information leading to the discovery of a missing Jefferson Parish, La., teacher, who disappeared during the early morning hours of March 2.
Terrilynn Monette, a second-grade teacher at Woodland West Elementary School in Jefferson Parish, has not been seen since celebrating with friends her Teacher of the Year nomination.
